In this video you’ll find out how to nominate someone to act on your behalf through myIR Secure Online Services.

It's important to know that nominating someone to act on your behalf gives them full access to your accounts through their myIR login.

Some of our accounts haven't been moved over to our new system yet, such as student loans, KiwiSaver, and Child Support.

Until we shift them over, the nominated person will be able to see they have access to the information, but they'll have to call us to make enquiries.

To get started, log in to myIR and select the 'More' tab next to 'I want to...'. Under ‘Customer and account access’, select ‘Manage associated accounts/parties’ and click on ‘Add a nominated person’.


Visual:

The mouse cursor moves to 'Manage associated accounts/parties' on the next screen, with another blue circle appearing just before clicking on the words. On the next page, the cursor moves to 'Add a nominated person' and the circle appears before it clicks.

Under ‘Customer and account access’, select ‘Manage associated accounts/parties’ and click on ‘Add a nominated person’.

Read the page carefully to find out what nominating someone to act on your behalf means, and to find out what information you’ll need to proceed. After you’ve read and understood the information select ‘Next’


Visual:

You need to tell us whether you’re nominating an individual or non-individual. An individual could be a friend, family member, or someone else you trust to access your account. If you’re nominating a non-individual, we’ll ask you to tell us what their relationship is to you.

Once you've added your postal address, select the 'Verify your address' button. This checks your address against data from NZ Post.


Visual:

The page scrolls down to reveal a section titled 'Relationship period' with 'No' selected by default. The mouse cursor moves over to the 'Yes' box and clicks, highlight by a blue circle. A box titled 'Relationship end date' appears below it.

If you want to add an end date to the nominated person’s access, click ‘Yes’ under ‘Relationship period.

The mouse cursor moves down and types in the date 01/01/2020, which auto-corrects to 01-Jan-2020. The mouse cursor moves over to click the calendar icon, opening up a calendar from which a date can be selected. The mouse moves to the 'Next' button at the bottom of the page, which is highlighted and then clicked.

Type in the day, month, and year and hit enter. You can also select a date using the calendar. When you have finished, select 'Next'.


Visual:

A page titled "Select accounts" appears, with the box for 'Specific accounts' selected by default. There is a list of different tax accounts below it, with a checkbox beside each one.

You’ll be asked to choose which accounts you want the nominated person to have access to.

The mouse cursor moves up and selects the box for 'All current and future accounts', which is highlighted with a blue circle and then clicked.  The checkboxes beside each tax account disappear, signalling that all accounts are being selected.

You can choose ‘All current and future accounts’ or, you can choose ‘Specific accounts.'


Visual:

The mouse cursor clicks on "Specific account" and highlights it. The checkboxes for each account reappear, and the box beside "Donation tax credit" is selected. The mouse moves down to the 'Next' button and clicks it, highlighted by a circle,

If you choose specific accounts, you must select at least one account. After you’ve selected the accounts, choose ‘Next’.

Read all the information on the page to make sure you’ve filled in the details correctly.

When it reaches the bottom of the page, the mouse cursor hovers over the 'Previous' button. It is highlighted by a blue circle and then clicked, taking us back to the "Select accounts" page. The checkbox beside 'Donation tax credit' is unchecked, and the box beside 'Income tax' is selected instead. The 'Next' button is clicked, taking us back to the "Review" page with updated details.

If you’ve made a mistake, select ‘Previous’ and go back to where you made the mistake.

The screen dims and the box titled "Declaration" is highlighted. The screen returns to full brightness and the checkbox under "Declaration" is selected. A blue circle highlights the 'Submit' button, and the mouse cursor moves over to click on it. A confirmation page appears briefly before fading out.

Once you're satisfied all the details are right, read and tick 'Declaration', and then select 'Submit'.
