How to file an FBT return in the My Business section of myIR

In this video, you’ll find out how to file a Fringe Benefit Tax return through myIR Secure Online Services. We’re continuing to make improvements based on customer feedback so please note some things may change.

Transition to myIR home page. Pop up circle highlights ‘My business’ tab. The pointer selects ‘my business tab’ button.

To get started, log into myIR and select the ‘My business’ tab.

Under ‘Accounts’ you’ll find your FBT account. Select this account.

Transition to FBT sub page. Pop up circle highlights ‘File return’ under the ‘Periods’ tab. The pop-up circle highlights the ‘I want to…’ tab. Then the pointer selects ‘File Return’ button.

You can start the filing process by selecting ‘File return’ under ‘Periods’ or under ‘I want to...’

The navigation bar along the top will help you see where you are in the process of filing your FBT return. Depending on the FBT return you are filing this step may appear at the start or end of the return.

Transition to ‘Final Return’ sub page. Pop up circle highlights ‘yes/no’ button under ‘Final return’ section. Then Pop up circle highlights ‘Next’ button. The pointer selects ‘Next’ button.

Audio:

You can choose to use the worksheet to calculate the taxable value of your fringe benefit tax. To use the worksheets click ‘yes’ and follow the prompts.

Review the information you have entered and select ‘Next’.

Or, if you already know the value of your fringe benefit tax, you can choose to enter the information manually. To do this, click ‘No’ and enter the information.

When you’ve completed the return, review the information before submitting it. If the information is correct tick the declaration box. If you need to make a change, select the ‘previous’ button. Once you’ve clicked ‘Next’ a payment screen will appear.

You can make a direct debit payment while you’re completing you return. Simply follow the prompts, then Submit.
