Request a personal tax summary

Note: If you have used this service to request a PTS in the past please note that this process can no longer be used. Now you can request your PTS online through myIR Secure Online Services.

If you're already registered for myIR you can request your PTS and confirm it by logging in. The form will pre-populate with your personal details and earnings information. Go to "Login".

If you're not registered for myIR, register now by going to "Register".

About this service

This service allows you to request a personal tax summary (PTS).

When to use this service

If you request a PTS and it works out to be tax to pay, you will have to pay that tax.

You can find out whether you'll automatically be sent a PTS or whether you must request one.

Note: If the payment date has passed you will also be required to pay late payment penalties and interest charges.

If you don't need to request a PTS, you can check whether you've paid the correct amount of tax by using our Work out my income tax filing options calculator. If this works out to be a refund, you'll need to request a PTS to get your refund.

Note: You can request a PTS for any of the last five tax years but not earlier. For example, from 1 April 2016 you will no longer be able to request a PTS for the year ending 31 March 2011.

What you will need
  • your IRD number - if you don't have your IRD number, call us on 0800 377 774
  • any interest, dividend or taxable Māori authority distribution details
  • details of any expenses you can claim.
After you finish


If you request a PTS for any year from 2012 to 2015 it should arrive in 5 to 10 working days (in most cases. If you have not received your PTS within six weeks please contact us on 0800 377 774.


Your PTS will show if you have a refund, have tax to pay or if you've paid the correct amount of tax.

If you request your 2016 PTS:

  • before 7 June 2016 you will receive it by the end of July
  • after 7 June 2016 it should arrive within 45 working days.
